Minute Hand uses two fixed modules and one optional module to assist in improving time recording behavior within your organization:
1. Our information program
In this interactive module with fee earners, we look at how time recording is used to register how fee earners spend their time and as the basis for billing the client as well as the reasons why this system is used. We also talk about:
- activities that can be recorded as billable time and those that can’t;
- daily leakage of billable time;
- the self-censorship fee earners often apply when recording billable time; and
- the ethical aspects of time recording.
2. Our time recording optimization plan
For a genuine improvement in time recording behavior it’s essential to set up and implement an optimization plan. Minute Hand tailor-makes this plan to suit your needs. It is based on the principles of Organizational Behavior Management (OBM). This practical scientific methodology is not yet widely used in Europe, but it has already been very successful in the United States.
OBM is not based on sanctions, but uses positive stimuli to achieve structural behavioral change within an organization. OBM aims to achieve measurable performance improvement using proven, replicable methods that are positive and goal-driven.
Following the implementation of the time recording optimization plan, the effect on time recording behavior is measured at set times. From experience we see that at individual level time recording sometimes improves by up to 25% and at the same time the fee earner experiences the method as a pleasure to work with. Resulting in a more effective, better performing organization with less time recording stress for fee earners.
You can implement the optimization plan using your current time recording software.
3. Our Timekeeping Officer training
In this optional module, we train one of your staff to be an effective Timekeeping Officer. We teach the Timekeeping Officer some of the basic principles of behavior management. This is to ensure that the optimized time recording behavior continues to be implemented in the organization permanently and successfully.
The Timekeeping Officer could be someone in your HR or Finance department or one of your more experienced fee earners. The Timekeeping Officer will also receive training enabling them to act as the contact person for fee earners with practical or ethical questions regarding time recording.
